What is National Waiters' Day?

2017 marks the 5th anniversary of National Waiters’ Day. The event showcases the dedication, skills and hard work of front of house staff, as well as the great potential for rewarding careers in the hospitality industry, which employs 2.9 million people in the UK. It promises to be an exciting day, with waiters’ races being planned nationwide in celebration of front of house careers. Your students can get involved for free, by coming along, meeting lots of employers with jobs and work experience on offer, and running in one of our Waiters' Races!

Why get involved?

Being a part of National Waiters' Day gives young people a chance to learn about an industry that is the UK's fourth largest employer.

With great potential for rewarding careers in the hospitality industry, students attending waiters day can get involved in interactive activities with top businesses such as Premier Inn, Crowne Plaza, Hilton, Yo Sushi! And lots more... As well as this Springboard will be offering expert careers information, advice and guidance.

National Waiters' Day is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain experience in meeting potential employers, as well as a fun day out where they should learn a lot!

How can my school or college get involved?

There are a variety of ways to get involved and be a part of National Waiters' Day 2017. Whether you are coming to Hyde Park on the day, taking part in an event somewhere across the country, attending a taster day, holding a careers talk or supporting via social media - there are activities for everyone to take part in!

Come and Run

Are your students fast on their feet? Register to come along and run in one of our Waiters' Day Races, for the chance to be crowned the nation's fastest student! Visit to register!

Buddy Days

Taster Day / Show Round:

We can help organise for a local business to host a taster day where your students get a showround as well as careers talks and have a go activities!

Ambassador Talk

Organise a race on your site

We can help you organise an waiters' race or activity at your school or college. Springboard works with some exciting hospitality employers across the UK, each of whom are offering the opportunity to engage with your students for a real taste of our exciting industry!

Social Media

If you don’t have the capacity to send students out or offer taster days then why not contribute to the social media campaign? Springboard are asking YOU to send in photos and video clips via twitter or email of all things hospitality related.

Our Waiters Day Race in Hyde Park, London.

Hyde Park Agenda:


We will open for registrations and sponsor stand area will open. There will be a range of stands where different sponsors will have activities all helping raise awareness of FOH roles including a Springboard stand offering careers advice and guidance.


Students and Career Seekers Race Begins


Waiters Race begins - All competitors will do a short dash whilst carrying a tray with a plastic bottle of water and a cup – you can only use one hand so make sure you don’t lose your bottle!


We will do a prize giving announcement at the finish line where the winners of the race will be presented with their prizes for fastest waiter, fastest waitress, winning team and best dressed! Competitors, family, friends and the general public will be welcome to visit the sponsor stands and enjoy refreshments on offer.
