Your role is to support the manager with the operation of the restaurant, maximise sales and please customers.

Job Summary

  • To assist the Restaurant Manager in maintaining the image of the restaurant and increasing its sales (from preparation through to service)
  • Be a host and communicate with guests
  • Organise the restaurant team: their tasks, schedules and information meetings
  • Monitor customer service levels
  • Ensure the quality of service and service provision
  • Take full responsibility for the Restaurant during allocated shifts
  • Maximise restaurant occupancy

Skills required

  • Management: managing priorities, the ability to listen, team motivation
  • Significant experience of restaurant supervision
  • Experience with sales
  • Ability with figures
  • Able to deliver training at all levels
  • Customer service experience

Qualifications and Training

You will need a good standard of education and ideally some related qualifications. If you wish to move up the career ladder you may want to look into further study in College.

You may want to consider the following qualifications:

  • NVQs or SVQs
  • City & Guilds diplomas in hospitality
  • BTEC or HND in hospitality
  • Any health & safety and food hygiene courses

Salary Expectations

An Assistant Restaurant Manager can expect to earn between £21,000 and £25,000 a year, with an average salary of £23,000, though with experience and certain establishments they can earn as much as £35,000.
