Unlike most of the Housekeeping department you don’t stay in the bedroom – you’re responsible for cleaning the public areas of the building

Job Summary

  • Cleaning public areas i.e. corridors and staircases
  • Handling equipment, soiled and clean linen, and furniture for the room attendants
  • Specialised cleaning tasks i.e. vacuuming carpets and furniture, cleaning doors and windows and polishing hard floors

Skills required

  • Keen eye for detail
  • Time management
  • Health and safety for the workplace
  • High standards of hygiene and cleanliness
  • A knowledge of hazardous cleaning products

Qualifications and Training

You don’t need any particular qualifications or training to begin your career as a House Porter. If you wish to move up the career ladder you will need various hospitality and hygiene certificate and qualifications under your belt.

Salary Expectations

A House Porter can expect to earn between £13,000 and £17,000 a year
