IHG is one of the world's leading hotel companies with 724,018 rooms in more than 4,900 hotels in nearly 100 countries around the world. Added to this, over 1,200 hotels are under development!
Some of the wide range of their brands that you may be aware of in the UK include InterContinental®, Crowne Plaza®, Hotel Indigo®, Holiday Inn® and Holiday Inn Express®.
For those of you into the ‘mechanics’ of the hotel operating, IHG’s operating approach is done in three different ways – franchised, managed and on an owned and leased basis. Their business model focuses on managing and franchising hotels, whilst their business partners own the bricks and mortar.
Franchising is the largest part of the business: 4,167 hotels operate under franchise agreements while 767 hotels are managed worldwide. Only 8 hotels are owned worldwide (less than 1% of our portfolio). IHG’s strategy is focused on increasing the number of franchised and managed hotels they have.
No matter what the business arrangement, all the hotels work towards achieving the company’s purpose – to create Great Hotels Guests Love®.
