Prestonfield is a very personal creation of James Thomson, described by ‘Time Out’ as "Edinburgh's star restaurateur", It is a fusion of historic architecture with an extensive collection of art and antiques and décor every bit as rich and colourful as the history of the house itself.
Prestonfield has been at the heart of Scotland's artistic, social, business and political life for over four centuries and, as a uniquely luxurious 5 red star hotel, it remains so today.
Prestonfield is situated only five minutes from Edinburgh's finest shopping streets and the historic attractions of the Royal Mile, yet, surrounded by twenty acres of gardens and parkland, it provides the privacy and seclusion of a country estate.
Careers with Prestonfield
As you would expect, standards are high throughout all of James' collection (also The Witchery by the Castle and the Tower Restaurant at the top of the Museum of Scotland). However, if you are looking to further your career with an innovative industry leader, then Pretonfield may just have the position for you.
Prestonfield is passionate about giving its guests exceptional and memorable experiences and has a strong and ongoing commitment to developing its staff's skills and expertise too. You'll also find that they have a passionate commitment to sustainability and best environmental practice – they are proud to have been awarded a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
Encouraging talent into an exciting industry is a personal crusade of James Thomson. James supports and funds a number of educational initiatives at primary, secondary and further education levels.
Many who work alongside James have been with him for a decade or more. Some have developed their careers in different parts of the collection, whilst others have developed new and different roles as their careers have progressed. All share the same exceptional passion for delighting their guests which is why one of their porters, William Kay, is fronting VisitScotland's latest campaign to encourage guests to visit Scotland and meet some "real Scots!"

Perks of The Job
I love my job because...
"It is a thrill to fulfil a challenging request but, best of all, I love to see returning guests treat Prestonfield as their home. It is a real pleasure to see guests who arrived stressed from a flight relax and enjoy the hotel."
