Initiated by Chris Galvin, Chef Patron and Fred Sirieix, in 2009, the programme targets people aged between 18-30 who are not in education or employment and are facing barriers to work, such as criminal convictions, low education level and a lack of experience.
Galvin’s Chance offers them training and opportunities for a career in some of the most prestigious hotels, restaurants and food service management organisations in London. Galvin’s chance is the beginning of a young person’s involvement in a life changing programme that will ultimately provide them with the confidence, and opportunity to begin a fulfilling career in hospitality.
The Galvin’s Chance programme runs for 3 weeks and involves mentoring, work experience, skills training, industry visits, employment and the potential to earn recognised qualifications in hospitality. It is designed to give all of the young people on the programme the chance to improve their lives for the better and to inspire those around them.
Since the programme’s return in Spring 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic and through the work of Galvin’s Restaurants (Chris Galvin and Peter Avis) and The Springboard Charity, we have successfully run 3 cohorts of programmes. From these programmes we have successfully placed trainees into fantastic career opportunities with companies such as Galvin’s Restaurants, Hilton Hotels, Mandarin Oriental, Citizen M, Compass Group and many more.

Winner of the Fiona Colley Trainee of the Year Award at the Springboard Awards for Excellence 2023
“Before I joined the Springboard programme, I was receiving help from another charity who specialises in helping people with learning difficulties. It was not easy for me to find work as I have cerebral palsy and no work experience.
I was then made aware of Springboard and had an interest in exploring jobs in hospitality, so I signed up for Springboard’s Galvin’s Chance programme.
I really enjoyed the programme, learning about hospitality and going on visits to amazing hotels and restaurants. At the end of the programme I did a work experience which I really liked and then Springboard began helping me to find work.
In September of this year, with the help of Springboard, I secured my first ever paid job, working in the Cavalry and Guards Club as a Linen Porter.”
Toby has now secured a role at Compass Group in HSBC as a Catering Assistant!
Recent Course Graduate and now into full time Employment.
“Springboard has helped me tremendously in my job search and offered a useful and comprehensive introduction to the hospitality sector.
It provided me an opportunity to visit many hotels in London, providing an insight into daily work and what is expected, for example: back of house work that many people don’t get to see.
Springboard taught me many techniques and transferrable skills that will help me in future employment, including helping me improve my CV and offering mock interviews. I was given the opportunity to meet and speak with many employers regarding the position I sought out.
The classes were pleasant and comprehensive, with additional engaging online modules, led by the incredible Tony, which this course would not be the same without. Thanks to Springboard, I managed to land and secure a job which is right for me. “
