Mentors & Ambassadors


Our mentors are all highly experienced professionals with a wealth of industry knowledge and our ambassadors are currently working within hospitality, advocating the various roles available within their organisation and the industry in general. They can help you in a multitude of ways from supporting with interview skills and practice, discussing career paths and nurturing skills through to offering work placements and helping you to see your strengths and build your confidence. Utilising our mentors and ambassadors will mean that you are more likely to succeed in achieving your career goals.

Represent and promote your industry and inspire the next generation of hospitality professionals

Linking into businesses recruitment and retention plans, the Springboard Ambassador Programme is designed to train enthusiastic and motivated individuals to promote their industry and current company as a great place to work and career option.

What’s involved:

  • Learn how to be an effective Ambassador and develop your professional and personal skills
  • Learn how to promote the industry, your business and role to various audiences
  • Enhance your presentation skills by getting specialist training in how to deliver inspiring and interesting presentations
  • Support the industry and play a role in helping tackle the skills shortage

Ambassadors are available for:

  • Talks and presentations
  • Visits, Taster days and to offer work experience
  • Support you by offering Careers advice and guidance
  • CV advice and interview skills
  • Be a point of contact in a business for recruitment

The GEMS programme has been increasingly successful since 2009 in offering a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to become inspired, learn employability skills and get the experience and guidance needed to develop their career. Our Mentors are experts in their specialisms and can provide their Mentees with valuable insights into the Hospitality industry as well as the routes available to them.  Mentors hold senior positions in the industry for more than five years. All specialisms in the sector are welcomed. 

The Mentees


To be accepted onto the scheme, students must be in their second year or above and will follow a process of shortlisting to ensure they display maturity, dedication and enthusiasm for the scheme and, most importantly, the Hospitality Industry. Once they are successfully selected, they undertake a Mentee briefing session conducted by Springboard.

How can the programme support Mentees? 

Once your application has been reviewed, you will be provided with personal and professional development tools and will get a chance to meet potential Mentors through our Matching Day.  

Throughout the three year programme, you will get: 

  • Ongoing support and guidance from very experienced mentors 
  • A deeper understanding of the hospitality industry and of the professions you are interested in to help you progress your career 
  • Personal and development tools to build your confidence, develop your communication skills and increase your career prospects 
  • Networking opportunities with industry professionals and peers 
  • Access to university speaking events about the current issues and changes occurring in the Hospitality industry 
  • Access to our online platform and database of placements offered by our partners 
  • Ongoing support from Springboard staff to ensure a smooth process and an effective mentoring relationship
